Of politics and engineering
One does not simply study in a college withouth being exposed to the internal ugly political system. And just like the political system at the national level. It is just as bad and just as ugly. There is a famous line from the game Skyrim "I have seen enough political manuevering in my time I choose to remain above the petty squabbles of this clan" this line applies beautifully when applied in a internal college context of you find it's bad choose to stay away choose to rise above these petty squabbles of power dominance. In the long run they hardly affect way you do in college. Staying aloof is the best practice. However if politics is your thing then by all means do get your hands dirty but remember you probably should not be here

Whoops- the money trail
Sitting in my class I just realised I have a blog that I have completely forgotten. Well anyways here is the Dealio. There are lots of opportunities there are in engineering. And by opportunity I mean money loads of it. These are not odd jobs at macdonalds no no. But I am taking about college festivals and competitions. Chances are if you came to engineering by personal choice then you have aptitude that places you above 99% of the rut that does enter engineering. And if that is the case then completions like these should be a breeze. Indeed since there are so many events and so much money at stake it is impossible not to walk away with some nice prize if takes the effort to participate. So get out to these festivals. Most people are intimated by the option and thoughts like it will be impossible to win etc should be cast aside. Festival are like the Vegas of engineering everyone is a winner. Even if you don't win (slim
Chance) you will walk away with a truckload of priceless experience. So go out there and compete. In my first year I managed to win loads of prizes in coding competitions, photography, extempore , debate etc i have lost count of the money also.

The Soap Bubbles
In the streets of Delhi's crowded marketplaces one often comes across the bubble blower who sells his wares of soap bubble guns. A group of bubbles floating up into the air always capture the imagination and fascination of the children and it is their attraction to it that forces the parents to buy one for them. This is the very point which the salesman uses to sell his wares it is a perfect example of exploiting child psychology for marketing. The salesman may not be a pro at what he does but he has the basic principle. What is it about these bubbles that fixates the children but the adults turn a blind eye to it. Is the fact we know all about these bubbles that we have already seen them. But children are still exploring the world they still find these am object of fascination . A girl throws up a tantrum her mother feels hopeless but keeps a stern face and refuses to the salesman excessive price. I also move on but not before grabbing a quick picture. Pfft bubbles I know all about them stokes law the. Omit diffraction pattern.. But even then somehow i feel i am not looking deep enough there is something beyond physics and science that children see in them. that even after walking past the stare back at them. that no other items in this market are grabbing their attention like these bubbles

First Days (Hesitant Footsteps)
If you make it through the chaos of engineering entrance i would like to welcome you to the world of engineering. Please excuse me I am also new like you.
Your first days might be like most peoples, A fish out of water. You would find yourself among a sea of people who you don't know, But don't worry they dont' know you in-fact nobody knows anybody. But breaking the ice is a simple process and mostly you just have to go with the flow. My suggestion Be your self. Because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Don't label any one with stereotypes (at least not for the first few months :) ) it might get inevitable later as one maybe a topper one maybe the athlete or the techno geek but then only when the people accept them.
In my college there were some extrovert Guys who help break the ice among people faster. I was an introvert by nature because i thought i might not be right or i might sound stupid. But if you open up to others you realise that the other guy is not so smart and the two of you are sailing the same boat.
Studies in engineering is not very different from normal school just like the other grades its a step forward. But the Best part is your new found freedom. It is difficult to describe where you get it from but remember this exercise it with caution. Excessive or inappropriate use might land you in trouble.
My college exercised a 60% attendance criteria but marks were deducted from 5-0 from 90-60% attendance hence bunking lectures for the heck of it looked like a lucrative option but we later realised we needed to save it for some important events what were they? stay tuned...
The Chaos
Chaos does not even begin to define the state of mind of a person studying for Engineering Entrance. Most people get through it without even realising it. But if one sits down and analysis it the results are mind boggeling . You are dissecting 3 subjects with tons of topics and an almost infinite question bank to analyse. If one is juggling studies and tuition and coaching all the while managing eating and sleeping one starts to truly respect the powers of the human body and mind. But not everyone is the same and not everyone can tolerate the pressure of studies, some students go by the root learning method and study day and night and start as early as their 10th standard and that is what differentiate the losers from the winners. Those who start early and root learn are the losers :P they are the ones who have misunderstood the whole reason of life and devoted it to a meaningless method of study that is based on principles that are unorthodox at base and questionable at best. Don't stress, chill Engineering is not the end of the world nor is the ultimate destination its just another stupid contraception of mankind.

Rising Aspiration
If Engineering is your aspiration(Yeah right who are we kidding here) and you are in India then it is unlikely that you will miss the plethora of coaching options that would be put in front of you. Choosing one is as simple as drawing one from a random pile. The only difference you can make is what you can study on your own. Next post I will discuss how to survive and make most of 2 years of gruesome coaching.
